Summer at Tennaqua

Tennaqua is a family-oriented, swim and tennis club. Offering extensive social and competitive swim, tennis and paddle programs at many skill levels for adults, juniors and children. The social aspect of this club rounds out an exceptional family experience.

Tennaqua is a member-run, private equity club, operating year-round. Our membership is limited to 300 families who come from many surrounding communities and span generations.

Nestled into a cozy corner of Deerfield, at the end of a private lane, Tennaqua is a hidden gem. Not widely known, nor easily stumbled upon, Tennaqua is truly a treasure to those who have discovered all that it has to offer.

1) Tennaqua began in 1958 with 255 members and we still have 5 original members. Past and present members include 2008 Olympic diving athletes, National Champion Paddle players and NCAA Division I scholarship tennis players.

2) Currently there are over 240 families from 6 different zip codes. The limit is 300.

3) Most new members have young families particularly with kids in the 6-12 year old range, but over 1/3 of the members have been here for 25 years or more and are empty nesters.

4) Our Tennis program and pro shop is run by Andy and Gretchen Moffat who have been with Tennaqua for 25 years.

5) Tennaqua boasts about having the largest and in our humble opinion, the best junior and senior high competitive tennis league in the area.

6) Tennaqua's courts have welcomed many tennis legends including Roy Emerson, Illy Nastase, Dave Wheaton, Brian Gotfried.

7) Platform Tennis (Paddle) is the fastest growing sport in the United States and Tennaqua and makes Tennaqua a year-round club. The paddle program is run by paddle pro Bjorn Bernhardtz and the year-round Lodge was built in 2008.

8) We have many opportunities to get in the Olympic size pool: swim team, diving team, water polo, designated adult swim hours or just a cool relaxing dip. Swim and Dive programs are run by Sheri Meyers who has been with Tennaqua for 10 years.

9) Tennaqua has a zero depth baby pool for toddlers constructed in 2006.

10) A new and flexible full-time or drop-in kids club provides working and non-working parents a place for their kids to enjoy Tennaqua under the Supervision of long-time Deerfield Park District and Holy Cross after school program director Connie Jurewicz.
